Obiklip

Obiklip

Turn long-form spoken video into short, publish-ready clips.

Version 2.0.0 macOS and Windows

Minutes and billing

Obiklip is paid for in minutes. You buy them once, they sit on your account, and they are spent on one thing only: analysing a recording.

What a minute is

One minute of source video analysed, rounded up to the whole minute. A recording of 1 h 24 m 32 s costs 85 minutes. It makes no difference how many clips come out of it, how long they are, or how much work you do on them afterwards.

What spends minutes

Pressing Analyze Video, and nothing else. That is the one moment money changes hands, and Obiklip shows you the cost before you press it.

What is free

  • Importing a recording, and importing the same one again.
  • Playing, reviewing and searching.
  • Moving where clips start and end.
  • Correcting the transcript.
  • Making a clip yourself from the transcript.
  • Rewriting titles.
  • Changing subtitle styles, positions and the shape of the frame.
  • Exporting, and exporting again.

Everything after the analysis is editing, and editing is yours.

Analysing the same recording twice

Re-analyze Video is a second run, and it is charged like the first one. It exists for the case where the first run was asked the wrong question - usually the wrong spoken language - and you want the whole thing done again. It is not needed for anything you can edit by hand, and the button says as much before it starts.

Holds, and runs that fail

When a run starts, its minutes are held rather than taken - your available balance drops, but nothing has been spent yet. If the run finishes, the hold becomes the charge. If it fails or is cancelled, the hold is released and the minutes come back.

A balance that looks short right after something went wrong is usually a hold that has not been released yet. Open My Account and press Refresh balance.

The free trial

A new account gets 30 minutes. It is one trial per person rather than one per sign-up, so a second address will not produce another thirty. If you were expecting a trial and did not get one, the app says so in My Account - write to us and we will look.

Buying more

My Account → Buy Minutes. Choose a pack, or top up an amount that suits you. Payment happens in your browser and the minutes land on your balance as soon as it clears. There is no card kept in the app, no plan, and nothing that renews.

The current prices are on the pricing page.

If something looks wrong

Press Refresh balance first - it asks the server rather than trusting what the app last saw. If it still looks wrong, tell us the date and roughly what you were doing. Balances are ledgers, so a mistake can be traced and put right.
